Coronavirus (COVID-19): Vaccinations in Scotland – latest data

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This blog looks at data from Public Health Scotland and the Scottish Government daily data on the number of vaccinations which have been administered in Scotland. It provides breakdowns by eligibility, age and sex and health board.

About the vaccines

There are currently two Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines being rolled out in Scotland. The Moderna vaccine has also been approved for use but won’t be supplied until later in the year.

  • Pfizer/BioNTech from 8 December 2020.
  • Oxford/AstraZeneca from 4 January 2021.

Both the Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccines have a 2-dose schedule.  The second dose for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine can be offered between 3 to 12 weeks after the first dose, while it is between 4 to 12 weeks for the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19): trends in daily data publication from the Scottish Government includes data on daily vaccinations in Scotland. It provides a breakdown of the number of people who have received their first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccination in the period from 8 December up to 8:30 am on the date reported. This is based on management information and is subject to change on any given day.

The data for this section comes from the weekly Public Health Scotland COVID-19 Statistical Report. It provides weekly figures which are based on a reporting week of Monday to Sunday.

Vaccination by age group and sex

This section looks at who has received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination by age group and sex. COVID-19 vaccines are not routinely recommended for children and young people under 16 years of age, so this age group is not included in the table. The greater number of females vaccinated reflects both there being more females in the older population due to higher life expectancy and a greater proportion of females in the health and social care workforce.

The data for this section comes from the weekly Public Health Scotland COVID-19 Statistical Report. It provides weekly figures which are based on a reporting week of Monday to Sunday.

Please note that there are currently no details available on the sex of the 288,002 vaccinations that took place in General Practice.
